Wednesday Wishes - Bugs

3:59 PM Posted In , Edit This 2 Comments »
So - Etsy has got a terrible bug right now.  Apparently, for some sales where a buyer purchases items from multiple sellers at one time, only one seller will get paid but they will get paid for ALL the items the buyer purchases.  Not cool.

There's confusion about whether this is an Etsy or a PayPal bug.  I haven't purchased from multiple sellers in a long time so in order to refresh my memory on how the interface works, I went shopping for a few low ticket items from multiple sellers.

I bought some wonderful seed beads from beadologistkelly who has great TOHOs in new colors and finishes at great prices.  I've purchased from her before and I'm always horribly jealous of the selection of colors, sizes and shapes of seed beads in her shop!

Then I discovered this shop.

Oooooh how pretty!

I got Maxx a big beetle and I got Molly a Butterfly.  When I ordered it, I thought she might want it for her locker but while in town today, I bought her a stainless water bottle to take to school and maybe she'll want to put it on that instead.

I'm going to have to have this Fairy Door for my studio when I move in.  And maybe a set of dragonflies.  And a Luna Moth for sure.  And maybe a Porthole or two for winter. . . . .

I hope that both Kelly Angeley and Wilson Graphics get paid in a timely manner and that my packages arrive very soon!

Wednesday Wishes - Mary Harding Pendants

9:16 AM Posted In , , , , , , Edit This 0 Comments »

It is January 6, 2010 and it just keeps on snowing in Upstate NY.  The more it snows and the cold creeps further into houses and bones, the more apparent it becomes that The Beorningstead will not be move-in ready before March or April.

Alas.  I will be asking Bry to move one of my large counter tops destined for my new studio into the livingroom here this weekend and will set up a dyeing area right here.  I've wasted enough time waiting for my new studio (curse you, banks and housing council!) and with both kids back in school, I'm ready to start really working here at home.

Another thing I'm ready to work on are some more Mary Harding pandant necklaces.  I mentioned earlier that I had purchased a beautiful ceramic pendant from Mary at the Beading Party in October and that I had created a lovely beaded strand to attach it to - well here it is!    (Sorry about the poor photo quality, there's a lot of glare on my pendant.  My new studio will have a better photography set up, too!)

I used gold colored beadalon, copper colored toggles, some of my favorite Czech Glass beads, several interesting brass filigree components and created a big bail with a large brass filigree.  When I finished, I realized that the necklace was the perfect length for the plain turtleneck I was wearing while designing it, but a bit short for my favorite draped cowl neck shirt so I made a matching extension that allows the necklace to drape deeper OR that can wrap around twice so that I can wear it as a choker length bauble with tee shirts or open necked sweaters.  The bail I created is very wide and can slide off the necklace entirely so I can wear the bead strand alone or trade it out for a wide ribbon if I want to wear the pendant with a slightly more feminine style.

It is very versatile and I've had lots of compliments on it so I want to make several more to offer in my shops.  Mary has a very nice wholesale policy and I will be purchasing several of her pendants when my Christmas commission check come in.  You can find Mary's work on her blog, in her Etsy Shop or on her independent website.  She's a wonderful woman and her gorgeous work has been featured in beadstyle and a few other publications - stop by and take a look at all the amazing things she does with glass and clay!

Now - I'm off to work. Today I plan to finish a project that got stalled months ago.  I picked it back up yesterday and was re-inspired!  It may even turn out to be worthy of an article to submit to Beadwork.  Photos coming soon.

Wednesday Wishes

How did it get to be Wednesday again already???

I have a whole list of wishes again today - like;

I wish the national weather service was ever right about these huge blizzards that they predict will snow us in for three blissful days by the fireplace.

I wish everyone in this house would learn how to put their laundry away.  (The teeneager should begin to lean that putting laundry away does not mean putting it on her floor.  YES!  I know that is where I kept MY laundry as a teen, but that's not where hers should go.  WHERE are her father's neat genes, anyway?  I'm sure I put them in there.  Sheesh.)

I wish I were in my new studio so that I wouldn't have to paint scarves on my hands and knees on the living room floor today.

And mostly - I wish I had time to play with these today.

They're available in my Etsy and Art Fire shops in groups of four.  They are incredibly bright and sparkley Amethyst and Carnelian CZs that I got for an amazing bargain price.  They are so impressive, especially all stranded together like that - Molly cried when I cut them off their tasseled strands.  It was a bit painful.  I hate de-stringing beads.  They need 26 gauge wire, 24 is just a teensy bit too big for most of the beads.

1.  I wish I had more time.

2.  I wish I were more productive with the time I do have every day

3.  I wish I were as cool as Lynn and Leslie.

Lynn and Leslie, two etsy sellers from Artful Market and Smiling Soul, have teamed up to create a bunch of amazing jewelry kits at incredibly affordable prices.  The kits contain all you need to make the jewerly pictured, plus professional instructions.  You can get the kits over in Artful Market's shop.  I buy from her frequently - her wares are of good quality, at great prices and she is very helpful and ships quickly.  There's plenty of time to order some kits for Christmas gift giving.

Enjoy!

Wednesday Wishes - Time!

Today's Wednesday Wish is for more time!  It actually snowed today and we are still dragging along with the Beorningstead.  There is good news on that front but I fear we won't be moving in before November. . . maybe in time for Christmas?

We are really going to ned some clocks over there so I took a quick look at Etsy and ArtFire for clocks.  I was disapointed to find that thefirst 5 pages of my Etsy search for "clock" turned up a bunck of faux steampunk re-mangled timepieces glued together in strange configurations.  Sheesh.

I did like kaileyhawthorn's painted recycled vinyl record clocks.  They are lovely and clever.

The photo at the top of this post is one of PhilsWoodcrafts Arts and Crafts clocks over at ArtFire.  Of course I would want the $325.00 clock!   I hope someone buys his clocks - they really are beautiful and look quite well made.  He's got a shop over on Etsy, too.

As a follow up to my last post about nut allergies - Molly and I did take a field trip to the candy aisle in Walmart.  Here is a list of things we found that ARE NOT safe for people with tree nut allergies this Halloween.  I'm not providing a list of what IS safe because that could change at any moment - folks should always check the label.  Checking the labels in the candy aisle proved to be a difficult task as not all manufacturers put a bold allergy warning at the bottom of the ingredients list if there are actual nuts in the product - they are just thrown into the list of ingredients, there is no highlighting or any other means of alerting consumers to the danger of nuts.  Candies made on contaminated equipment (equipment that also processes nuts) generally do have a highlighted warning at the bottom of the ingredients list but they are not as large or as bold as the warning you'll see on ceral boxes and the like.

Candys containing Tree Nuts or produced on equipment that also processes Tree Nuts:
- All Walmart Great Value brand candied & chocolate covered fruits & nuts.
- All Walmart Great Value brand candies - hard, soft, chocolate or otehrwise.  It is All contaminated with nuts.
 - All Brach's Candy - every single last bag is contaminated
- Snickers
- Hershey's bar with Almonds
- Almond Joy & Mounds
- Nestle Crunch
- Nestle Milk Chocolate Bars
- Peanut Butter M&M's
- Almond M&M's
- Strawberry & Peanut M&M's
- Peanut M&M's
- small plastic wrapped Hershey's milk chocolate bars (not the minis - the size up from minis)
- Hershey Kisses with Almonds
- Hershey's Cookies & Cream Kisses
- All Sponge Bob brand Candy
- Hershey's double chocolate
- Hershey's Nuggets - all of these are made on contaminated equipment
- Farley's Kiddie Mix
- Necco non pareils

Wednesday Wishes - Electricity

2:59 PM Posted In Edit This 0 Comments »
Oh, how I wish we had electricity at the new house.  If we had electricity there, we could charge up batteries for the variable speed power drill so that we could keep using it instead of having it die in the middle of a job and not having a charged up batery right handy 'cause we're too hurried to think everything through evey time.

Sigh.  I did a quick search for electricity over at Etsy and found some nifty things including this lovely altered photo from studiolyon.

I also love this transformer tie from toybreaker.   We gave Bry a toybreaker tie last year - it is yellow with a raven silk screened on it.  It is holding up very well and the image quality is top notch.  I'd fill his closet with toybreaker ties if I had the cash.

But mrsbutler takes the cake.  I wish I needed these right now.  Maybe I should order some so they'll be ready when we are???

I want these colors for my kitchen anyway. . . .

This would be cute in Maxx's room.

And for our paprika (and brown?) livingroom

From yesterday's post you know that what I really wish for are real walls, with wiring and insulation behind them.  Once I have those, some of these might be nice here and there.

I really like this this birch forest - and it would be very appropriate for our neck of the woods.

As would these Queen Anne's Lace Silhouettes.

I also like the cherry blossoms.  We've been talking about a paprika wall for quite some time . . . .

Molly has a great sloped ceiling on one side of her dormer window that creates the perfect sopt to hang sweet little birdcages.

And what little boy wouldn't want an airplane flying on his wall?

I wish I had a serger and time to sew all of the great fabrics that Fabric.com keeps offering up for Deal of the Day.

I really have to refuse to buy anymore until I actually find time to sew.

Molly and I often stop by this shop to oooh and aaah over the multitude of spectacular creations available at damselinthisdress.

Not only do I wish that I could afford some of these beautiful costume pieces, I wish I had the time, talent and access to the incredibly lush fabrics she uses so that I could create my own. I also wish I had a place to wear such clothes. (I know, Suzy, I should come to Pensic!)

I love that these are made to fit women's bodies. That means that while skinny girls like Kate Moss would look pathetic in these corsets, ladies with figures more like mine would look great. You can check out Michelle's website to see more photos of real women wearing her garb.

Michelle Thorstrom's story makes me happy. She decided, almost on a whim, to make a few corsets and sell them at a Renaissance Festival. Now she and her husband are supporting their family with this business. I think that's wonderful and incredible. I hope the magic continues for her!
